Bach Ma Nature Expedition

Summary:

Join us on our popular Da Nang Herping Tour, to experience a patchwork of surprisingly wild habitat, with lowlands, coastal forest, rice paddies, and scrublands, home to a fascinating diversity of snakes, frogs, and nocturnal life. This one-night adventure is perfect for serious herpers, nature-curious travellers, wildlife photographers, and families alike.

The tour starts with pick up early evening and is guided by our experienced local field experts. The big highlight and main target of this tour is usually the Vogel’s Pit Viper (Trimeresurus vogeli), but other key highlight species include Oriental Whipsnake (Ahaetulla prasina), Golden Tree Snake (Chrysopelea ornata), Many-spotted Cat Snake (Boiga multomaculata), Chinese Water Dragon (Physignathus cocincinus) Ba Na Slender Gecko (Hemiphyllodactylus banaensis) and the very rare Vietnamese Leaf Turtle (Cyclemys pulchristriata), alongside a supporting cast of frogs, toads, owls and nightjars.

This tour can be done either by car for small groups or by motorbike for solo travellers and pairs wanting a more flexible, fast-paced approach. Two-person motorbike trips include a second guide for greater area coverage. Each night in the field is unique, guided by recent weather, activity levels, and seasonal patterns, so we adapt our search accordingly. While snakes are the headline, the broader nocturnal ecosystem is always part of the experience.

Whether you’re short on time or just want a taste of Vietnam’s after-dark wildlife, this compact tour delivers a focused and flexible encounter with the country’s reptilian side. Pickup is available in both Hoi An and Da Nang, with field time running from approximately 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM.

This easy and accessible tour is suitable for everyone, from children to older adults. It includes visits to several key locations (each night is different!) all with minimal walking on flat, well-maintained paths. Head torches are provided to ensure you’re safe and can see where you’re going.

Bach Ma Nature Expedition
The Yellow-headed Temple Turtle is critically endangered and one of the most sought-after freshwater turtles on our Vietnam herping tours. In some seasons, we’re fortunate to have reliable locations for observing this elusive species. However, due to its high value in the illegal wildlife trade, we keep these sites confidential to help protect remaining wild populations.
