Summary:

Experience one of Asia’s most iconic primates by booking on our professional 3-day Photography Portfolio Tour in the spectacular Son Tra Peninsula, the only tour currently offered for professionl and serious phtoographers and videographers aiming for serious portfolio shots, material and content. This is not a standard wildlife tour, it is a fully guided photographic field experience designed for serious photographers and videographers seeking high-quality encounters, controlled conditions, and portfolio-grade outcomes.

Led by Next Continent’s team of professional wildlife photographers and natural history experts (not just field guides), this expedition is built around behaviour, light, and image creation. With experience working alongside over 100 professional photographers and videographers from around the world, our approach is refined for those who want more than sightings, aiming for high quality usable and publishable imagery.

What to Expect

Before you arrive, join a dedicated online Zoom session with our team to plan your field strategy, discuss objectives, ask questions, and refine your photographic goals. Alternatively, this session can be conducted in person upon arrival in Da Nang. We cover behaviour insights, location strategy, expected light conditions, and field approach so you arrive fully prepared. We are able to organise early morning access through special authority approval, this allows us to work prime light windows and avoid peak visitor pressure, dramatically improving both animal behaviour and photographic conditions.

Every day is structured entirely around your goals for light and wildlife activity. As default we work through the following:

  • Dawn sessions focused on early movement and feeding behaviour
  • Mid-morning tracking and behavioural observation
  • Midday repositioning, scouting, and secondary wildlife opportunities
  • Late afternoon into sunset sessions prioritised for golden-hour photography

Each expedition is supported by a specialist wildlife photography guide (composition, technique, and field craft support) as well as a local tracker who moves ahead of the us to locate and monitor douc langur families in real time. This two-layer system significantly increases encounter quality and time-on-subject.

Depending on conditions, group size, and field strategy, we utilise either private 7-seater vehicles or motorbike access support to ensure the best possible positioning across Son Tra’s varied terrain and micro-habitats. We operate in small, tightly controlled groups to minimise disturbance and maximise photographic opportunity. Our field positioning prioritises:

  • Undisturbed viewing angles
  • Clean backgrounds and canopy separation
  • Avoidance of crowded public viewpoints
  • Ethical wildlife interaction standards at all times

While the Red-shanked Douc Langur remains the primary focus of this expedition, our team are fully trained wildlife naturalists. For those interested, we can incorporate additional photographic opportunities including macaques, reptiles, birds, butterflies, and broader rainforest biodiversity — without compromising the core objective of high-quality douc encounters.
