After pick up from you accommodation and breakfast along the way, your day begins with a gentle nature walk in the lowlands of the national park. Explore lush coniferous and evergreen forests whilst you search for a variety of local bird species, butterflies, water dragons, squirrels and maybe even a snake or two. Unique natural life includes local orchids, the Golden Stag Beetle and even extraordinarily coloured Euphaea guerini dragonfly, so keep your eyes peeled!
From here, your tour ascends into the tallest climbs of the mountain range, where you will visit the serene Lady Chua Thuong Ngan Temple, a revered spiritual site that offers both cultural enrichment and stunning photo opportunities. Wander through the temple grounds, learn about the local history and legends associated with the area, and keep an eye on the skies for birds of prey, migrating swifts and local songbirds in the bamboo thickets.
A visit to the Tam Dao Stone Church follows, where you can appreciate the blend of French colonial architecture with the local history of the area. Set against a backdrop of misty mountains, the church offers a unique glimpse into the region’s colonial past, making it a perfect stop for photography and reflection.
Finishing up the morning, you’ll visit the Watertank Trail, where the final leg of your journey takes you through lush landscapes and uphill trails, offering stunning views over the park and surrounding valleys. At the top, enjoy a leisurely lunch with sweeping vistas of the mountain ranges before descending back to the base. Throughout the day, you’ll experience not only the diverse wildlife and flora of Tam Dao National Park but also the deep cultural roots that make this region a fascinating destination for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike.

Tam Dao National Park is home to a remarkable variety of animal and plant species, many of which are endemic to northern Vietnam and the broader Indochina region. The park boasts over 1,500 plant species, 280 bird species, 50 amphibians, 60 reptiles, 230 butterfly and moth species, and a rich diversity of insects, fish, and other wildlife. On our day tours, we aim to showcase as many of the park’s key species as possible, but for those with a passion for dedicated wildlife watching, we recommend our specialist trips. These tours are designed to target rarer and more elusive species, such as the Black Giant Squirrel, Pygmy Slow Loris, Red-vented Barbet, Blue-rumped Pitta, Rufous-bellied Niltava, and even some of the endangered predators.

Moderate. The trails are generally well-maintained, offering reasonably easy walking with some inclines. The jungle conditions can be hot and humid, especially in the afternoon, though early mornings can be cooler, particularly during the cooler months.
