Bach Ma Wildlife Tours

Just 40 km south of Hue and 65km from Da Nang, Bach Ma National Park is one of Indochina’s most celebrated and renowned wildlife destinations. Spanning a remarkable range of habitats from cultivated lowlands and scrub to lush lowland evergreen forest and cloud-draped montane forest above 900m, the park lies along a dramatic mountain ridge stretching from the Laotian border to the Hải Vân Pass on the coast. Part of the spectacular Annamite Ranges, this ridge forms a natural biogeographic boundary between northern and southern Vietnam, creating a zone of exceptional biodiversity where species from both regions converge and overlap.

Since its establishment in 1986, the park has been a haven for rare and endemic species, with ongoing discoveries of new reptiles, amphibians, insects, and plants. Historically, iconic species such as the critically endangered Saola, Coral-billed Ground Cuckoo, and the elusive Vietnamese Crested Argus highlighted the area’s conservation value, though sightings of these rarities have declined in recent years.

Today, Bach Ma is home to over 600 recorded species of birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians, alongside thousands of plants, fungi, insects and other forms of life. It’s one of the rare places where you can wake to the melodic singing of Northern Yellow-cheeked Gibbons, spend the morning tracking Silver Pheasant through the undergrowth, explore mountain streams for frogs and tortoises by afternoon, and end the day beneath a glowing moth sheet while searching for civets, vipers, and other elusive nocturnal creatures.

Easily accessible, the park offers opportunities for both immersive day trips and multi-day wildlife watching experiences. Vehicles are required to reach the summit zone, helping preserve the upper forest trails as quiet refuges for serious naturalists and wildlife watchers.
