Our\u00a02-night herping tour in Nam Cat Tien National Park, Vietnam<\/strong>, was a fantastic night out and adventure filled with a great and notable set of key reptile and amphibian highlight species.<\/p>\n

The trip was led by our principal herping guide\u00a0Diep Tung<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and joined by four guests from France\u00a0(Lucas, Lolita, Celia<\/strong>, and a friend). Lucas first reached out via WhatsApp about a month before the tour, and after some careful planning, we were ready to explore one of southern Vietnam\u2019s most biodiverse regions.<\/p>\n

The group\u2019s main goals were to find\u00a0Flying Lizards<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Pit Vipers<\/strong>, two of the most sought-after family groups and species in Nam Cat Tien. With great conditions and solid night work, we were fortunate to achieve both. Over two nights of guided night walks, we tracked down Ruby-eyed Pit Viper (Trimeresurus rubeus<\/em>)<\/strong> and the\u00a0Indochinese Flying Lizard (Draco indochinensis<\/em>)<\/strong>, displaying its beautifully patterned wings as it shot between trees.<\/p>\n

Other highlights of the herping trip included the\u00a0Berdmore\u2019s Slug Snake (Pareas berdmorei unicolor<\/em>)<\/strong>, recognised for its unique, saw-like teeth adapted to feeding on snails. We also encountered several\u00a0frog species<\/strong>\u00a0along the rainforest trails, including the unusual\u00a0Burmese Squat Frog (Glyphoglossus guttulatus<\/em>)<\/strong>, with its rounded body and distinctive look. Another standout sighting was the\u00a0Cat Tien Bent-toed Gecko (Cyrtodactylus cattienensis<\/em>)<\/strong>, an\u00a0endemic species<\/strong>\u00a0found only within Cat Tien National Park and a few other nearby local sites.<\/p>\n
