Unlike your standard wildlife tours that only scratch the surface with the standard, easy-to-see large mammals of Cat Tien, this tour is designed for serious mammal and primate watchers and photographers looking to encounter an exceptional and biodiverse range of species, from primates to elusive small mammals, forest bats, nocturnal predators and more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

C\u00e1t Ti\u00ean is home to well over 100 recorded mammal species, including some of the rarest, most threatened, and most elusive in the region. We target a broad range of species across all major habitat types, from evergreen forest and bamboo thickets to wetlands, grasslands, and river edges, using a combination of traditional tracking, modern field techniques, as well as the latest in wildlife detection tech. The itinerary emphasises quality encounters and maximum diversity, and can be tailored to suit specific interests. Whether you’re focused on particular target species or families (primates are an often requested example), photographic opportunities, or simply aiming to record as many species as possible.<\/p>

What truly sets this tour apart is our expert guiding team, advanced fieldcraft, and the use of specialised equipment and focussed targeting techniques. As with most mammal watching tours, a large amount of our field time is spent out at night, where we employ high-end thermal scopes, red-filtered spotlights, ultrasonic bat detectors, and other small mammal survey equipment for the otherwise near-impossible to see species. We also do acoustic work at known bat roosts and feeding areas, visit den sites, fig\/fruit trails and mineral licks (when available) to maximise encounters with key species. Each night offers extensive field time of active spotlighting by our team with extensive field experience.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

For primate specialists this is a very productive tour, with us regularly encountering 6x species including Southern Yellow-cheeked Gibbon, Black-shanked Douc Langur, Annamese Langur, Pygmy Slow Loris and the two local macaque species. Beyond primates, other regular highlights include Northern Red Muntjac, Lesser Oriental Chevrotain, Gaur, Yellow-throated Marten, Southeast Asian Palm Civet, Small Indian Civet, Small-toothed Palm Civet, Mainland Leopard Cat, Black Giant Squirrel, Common Giant Flying Squirrel, Indomalayan Long-tailed Giant Rat, East Asian Porcupine, Greater Short-nosed Fruit Bat, Grand Roundleaf Bat, Greater False Vampire Bat, Indochinese Horseshoe Bat, and Woolly Horseshoe Bat, to name a few.<\/p>

A few specialist species we dedicate time to searching for include Asian Elephant, Asian Small-clawed Otter, Sunda Pangolin, Particoloured Flying Squirrel, Red-cheeked Flying Squirrel, Large-toothed Ferret Badger, Burmese Hare, Greater Bandicoot Rat, and many more.<\/p>

Accommodation is at the park headquarters, featuring basic but comfortable rooms with private bathrooms, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi. Its convenient location near the park entrance allows quick access to vehicles and 24-hour park entry (ideal for very late-night spotlighting sessions). Meals are not included by default to offer flexibility for dietary preferences and self-catering, however, we\u2019re happy to assist with restaurant orders or add meals as opinion on request.<\/p>
